Room air filtered from viruses in open-plan offices, buildings of public authorities and public institutions

The professional high-frequency air cleaners by Trotec neutralise virulent accumulations of aerosol in the room air of large areas for waiting and passing

Open-plan offices, museums, public institutions and buildings of public authorities share one common problem: In areas with high public traffic, there is always the risk of pathogenic particulate matter, allergens, spores, bacteria and viruses spreading through the room air. Whether to extend your ID card in the local citizen service, for the registration or de-registration of a vehicle in the road traffic licensing department but also during working hours in open-plan offices, in call centres etc.

Not without reason, many people during times of spreading flu epidemics and other pathogenic diseases caused by norovirus or SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus reduce their stay in highly frequented closed rooms or buildings. Whereas you can avoid going to the museum or cinema during a crisis, it is indispensable on the other hand to still visit some public authorities. The one who works in an office with many other colleagues has no other option than hoping that the room air is as unpolluted as possible. An important component for an effective hygiene concept to prevent airborne infections is to keep the room air free from viruses by means of an effective air purification with professional solutions such as the high-frequency air cleaners by Trotec.

Rooms with many people staying or passing through are particularly susceptible to viruses and germs

Ban the corona guys from your rooms

As various studies prove, the pollution in the room air often is above average in open-plan offices, buildings of public authorities or public institutions even in “normal” times.

This diverse exposure made of fine particulates, micro fibres and mould spores may present a risk for the health of all present persons. Besides, in times of spreading epidemics, the risk of an airborne infection with viruses extremely intensifies.

Scientific studies prove that e.g. the Sars-CoV-2 virus can survive in the air for several hours in form of a particulate while remaining infective. Other pathogens such as the noro- or influenza virus can also overcome large distances through the air. The more people stay in the room at the same time, the higher is the danger of pathogenic germs, viruses and bacteria spreading through the air exchange in the entire area.

Separating walls only separate people, not virus-infected air

The problem of freely floating aerosols with viruses being attached to them is exactly what it is: They are floating! This is why separating walls are only suitable for separating persons, not virus-laden air. Protective screens or separating walls alone, e.g. installed in-between the individual workplaces or at waiting counters do not prevent viruses from spreading through the air. Separating walls made of Plexiglas, similar constructions and also protective masks for mouth and nose indeed protect from direct ‘virus drizzle rain’ caused by certain manners of talking. However, they do not provide protection from germ-laden aerosol particles that are released into the room air while talking and breathing, where they will continue floating in the form of aerosol accumulations for several hours.

Airborne viruses are not familiar with social distancing rules

Combining the use of masks and separating walls is a first important approach to reduce the risk of a direct droplet infection with the SARS-CoV-2 virus. However, this measure does not protect from a far greater danger of infection – accumulations of aerosol particles floating freely in the room air!

Even talking persons emit both large visible droplets as some sort of ‘virus drizzle rain’ and, on a much larger scale, tiny aerosol particles, invisible to the eye and contaminated with viruses or bacteria if from infected persons.

Aerosol accumulations spread like billows of smoke, only invisibly

The accumulation of aerosol consists of simultaneously emitted microfine droplets, comparable to billows of smoke. The particles will spread for several metres up and far across the room which is why they overcome physical barriers of sneeze guards barriers or separating walls with no problem. As a result, they can get that easily into the respiratory tract and eyes of other people staying on the other side of the separating wall.

Protect employees, citizens and visitors with a 360-degree hygiene concept

Only a coordinated all-round solution with a direct sneeze guard barrier or a separating wall and additional high frequency air purification reliably and permanently reduces the risk of infection. For this reason, don't only rely on physical barriers such as protective masks for mouth and nose and separating walls for protecting your employees and guests. Aerosol particles in the room air don’t stick to the distance rules – as they potentially transport viruses, they are the real source of danger! The main objective is to prevent breathing air of all present persons from spreading throughout the room.

The coronavirus can spread in open-plan offices with alarming speed, as the United States Health Department CDC summarises in a latest survey.

A recent incident in South Korea’s capital Seoul indicates how fast the coronavirus is able to spread through the room air at the workplace.

In an open-plan office with nearly 100 workplaces, a single employee tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 infected more than 90 other colleagues and residents without having had direct personal contact with them.

Ground plan of the affected open-plan office

Despite the employer reacting fast, more than 90 employees have become infected before the first incident was detected. Already on the next day, the entire high-rise building with more than 900 employees and 200 residents was closed by the responsible authority in order to interrupt the infection chains. However, it was already too late by then! 94 colleagues of the open-plan office and 3 residents of the skyscraper had already been infected with the coronavirus according to the CDC report.

The most important aspect: It can nearly be ruled out that the person who was tested positive first has had direct personal contact to all other infected persons (approx. 100 colleagues and residents). It can rather be assumed that coughed up aerosols or virus-laden aerosols emitted by talking have spread in the open-plan office or lift through the room air, whereupon they have been inhaled by other employees or residents. It is important to mention that wearing masks in offices is currently not mandatory which could at least reduce droplets and accumulations of aerosol.

High-performance air purification in open-plan offices with the TAC V+ guarantees to efficiently reduce the risk of infection with the coronavirus or other influenza viruses.

Professional air cleaner with H14 HEPA filter by Trotec

High frequency air purification for highly frequented public zones

If the room air is kept free from germs and viruses, the airborne risk of infection will be minimised likewise. Trotec high-frequency air cleaners such as the TAC V+ are exactly designed to perform this task for they efficiently and quickly reduce the intensity and time aerosol accumulations and suspended matter stay in closed rooms, creating zones with an extraordinarily reduced risk of infection for both employees and visitors.

Directly at the installation site, the mobile air cleaner TAC V+ creates a “clean zone area”, flooded with purified air and filtered from viruses. Within this zone, the surrounding air nearly completely stays free of airborne germs and viruses because the TAC V+ is able to take in large volumes of contaminated room air, to carry out effective H14 HEPA filtration and to purify flexibly adjustable room air zones with clean air that has been filtered from viruses and aerosol particles.

Effective against bacteria and virus accumulations

Trotec high-frequency air cleaners are equipped with HEPA filters of class H14 which filter out more than 99.995 % of all fine suspended particles larger than 0.1 µm with a transmittance of only 0.005 %. Or in other words: No more than five of 100,000 particles pass the H14 filter. Thanks to this unique feature, these kinds of high-performance filters are also used in operation theatres or comparable hygienically sensitive areas in order to produce clean air. This way, you create optimum conditions to keep room air and breathing air free from germs and viruses in open-plan offices, call centres, public institutions or coworking spaces and other highly occupied areas in times of spreading epidemics.

Well-known viral strains such as SARS-CoV, MERS-CoV or Covid-19 have a particle size of 0.005 to 0.1 µm. Most of the time, they form accumulations with other particles (such as saliva or suspended matter) which increases their size up to 0.4 µm or 0.5 µm. These accumulations are referred to as germs and will be filtered out reliably by the Trotec H14 air cleaning filters.

All H14 HEPA filters by Trotec fulfil the highest quality standards that are obligatory for bacteria and virus filtration.

  • Each H14 high-performance filter is tested individually and is assigned its respective serial number
  • The test report is enclosed as certificate in duplicate with each H14 filter
  • The original test certificate can be filed with the documents for the device. If required, the copy can be attached to the air cleaning device.
  • HEPA high-performance H14 filters are tested in compliance with EN 1822 and EN 60335-2-69.

Also suitable for any TAC air cleaner with H13 filter

You can also insert a H14 HEPA filter by Trotec into your TAC air cleaner if you already possess a TAC device. The H14 filters are available as an accessory, e.g. for the professional air cleaners TAC 3000, TAC 5000 or TAC 6500. Simply replace the H13 filter in the filter compartment with a H14 HEPA filter.

The Trotec H14-HEPA filter is not included in the scope of delivery and is optionally available as an accessory.

High performance air cleaner TAC V+. Effective protection against aerosols and viruses in the air.

This product video will tell you all about the virus protection effect, the function and the advantages of the TAC V+ high-performance air purifier from Trotec. According to the current state of science, the coronavirus is transmitted in over 80% of cases by aerosols in the room air. The aerosols contaminated with viruses are produced when speaking, coughing or sneezing and often remain in the room air for a very long time. Inhaling the infectious aerosols can infect people in the room with pathogens. Trotec offers the solution for this: The TAC V+ high-performance air purifier filters the air with an efficiency of 99.995%, which corresponds to the air quality of operating rooms. The room air contaminated with aerosols is diluted, pressed to the floor, sucked in and filtered. In the vicinity of the air purifier, aerosol and virus-free clean air zones are created. The viruses bound in the filter are automatically killed by heat, so that the filter remains hygienically clean for a long time. By using the TAC V+ air purifier from Trotec, you will protect your employees, customers and guests. Ideal for, for example, restaurants, fitness studios, hotels, open-plan offices, medical practices, shops, and supermarkets, etc. So that finally more people, customers and visitors can stay indoors again without the risk of infection.

Effective air purification technology for clean breathing air

The aerosol accumulations are invisible to the naked eye and spread several metres into the room, flowing through interior spaces as swathes of fog do – see the following real-time video: The TAC V+ sucks in large volumes of potentially contaminated air near the ground, filters out nearly all viruses and suspended matter within minutes and generates clean air filtered from viruses which is guided back into the room. The result is that suddenly occurring accumulations of aerosol are diluted with clean air in your breathing area to such an extent that virus load and risk of infection will be significantly reduced! Just as the room is entirely foggy at the start of the video to be completely fog-free after the treatment in the end, the TAC V+ can also free your room air from particulate matter, fine particulates or aerosol accumulations carrying viruses.

Aerosols and the corona virus: This is how the virus spreads through the indoor air

While larger droplets do not fly far when speaking and quickly sink to the ground, the smaller and lighter aerosols float in the air for several hours and are distributed throughout the room. The TAC V + air purifier offers reliable protection against infectious aerosol particles. The room air is cleaned with high frequency and infectious viruses are filtered out and inactivated in the new HEPA filter.

Our recommendation for virus filtration in open-plan offices or other busy and fully occupied areas

The TAC V+ or TES 200 Trotec air cleaners for purifying areas

The TAC V+ or TES 200 take in the virus-infected air, filtering it with the HEPA technology whereupon they transmit it back to the room air

The vertical construction of the mobile high-performance air cleaners TAC V+ and TES 200 serves for establishing particularly efficient “clean zone areas” with surrounding air filtered from viruses. Setting up several devices with some distance in-between will provide areas filled with clean air, serving as both passage zones or workplace areas with a low aerosol concentration.

Efficiently reduces the risk of infection by high-performance air purification in open-plan offices

Within these zones, employees and visitors are way better protected from aerosol particles and droplets that quickly spread through coughing, sneezing etc. Thanks to the high air change rate, particles and droplets are separated from the room air more quickly, and the areas are permanently being ventilated with virus-free room air which significantly reduces the infection risk in the transfer zone.

H14 special filter with thermal self-regeneration function

This air cleaning performance is made possible by a synchronous system of efficient prefiltering and final particulate air filtration, provided by the integrated H14 HEPA filter by Trotec in a special heat-resistant version.

This special filter is integrated in the devices TAC V+ and TES 200 and is heated up in intervals which will inactivate all viruses remaining in the filter, serving for a 100 % decontamination of the filter. The thermal self-regeneration function of the H14 special filter is unique in the world and exclusively available at Trotec!

TAC V+ and TES 200 are part of the same assembly and therefore provide the identical fan performance and HEPA air purification function. Along with the HEPA air purification, the TES 200 can, however, also be used for combined room heating, thermal decontamination of rooms and surfaces and thermal pest control. The reason for this are the additionally integrated, powerful electric heating module and enhanced programming options for various air treatment scenarios.

Thanks to their combined technology of filter and decontamination techniques which are unique in the world, TAC V+ and TES 200 provide safety by reducing an airborne risk of infection in all highly occupied areas. Ideally suited for open-plan offices, coworking spaces or call centres and public institutions such as offices or administrative and court buildings.

Always a good investment – even in “post-corona times”

The high-frequency air cleaners by Trotec can also effectively protect colleagues and visitors from an airborne infection with influenza viruses during annual flu outbreaks.

Moreover, the devices TAC V+ or TES 200 are not only able to provide clean and virus-free room air, but also filter out odours.

Sweat, tobacco smoke in clothing or lunch at the workplace – high numbers of customers or visitors and fully occupied offices causing several minor odour nuisances can soon provoke a whole palette of unpleasant smells. A lot of suspended matter in the air absorbs these unpleasant odours If the air is not sufficiently purified, they will permanently attach to textiles, carpets, wallpapers, interior decoration or other surfaces.

On top of filtering viruses, the high filter efficiency of the H14 HEPA air purification also guarantees to neutralise odours by filtering suspended matter carrying odours. The result is clean room air all around!

Example ‘open-plan office’: With an area of 12 x 12 m and a room height of 3 m, the depicted office area has an air volume of 432 m³. Four TAC V+ devices are able to circulate this volume more than 15 times per hour (ventilation performance 6,400 m³/h), which corresponds to an air change rate (ACH) of 15.
Application scenario of the TAC V+ in open-plan offices

It is you who decides which safety level is best suited for your requirements:

The higher the air circulation and the respective air change rate (ACH), the lower is the time viruses stay in the room air, which results in the infection risk decreasing. The number of the air change rate is also the factor for determining the operating range of each high-frequency air cleaner.

5 ACH achieve basic protection. However, we recommend using air change rates between 10 and 20 ACH for fully occupied rooms in order to obtain significant risk protection. After all, the main objective is to prevent breathing air of different persons from spreading as effectively as possible.

Optionally also available in further colours

In addition to the standard yellow paint, the TAC V+ is optionally painted in basalt gray, white or bronze and can also be ordered as a stainless steel version.
